Pmk founder Ramdhass has urged the Central government to pass a bill amending Section 342 of the Constitution to give back the right to include castes in the backward classes to the Central government in the coming 19th session of parliament.
In this regard, Ramdhass today (July 03) wrote on his Twitter page, “Central Minister Tawarchand Kelad has said that the Constitution will be amended to give back to the state governments the power to decide which castes can be included in the backward class and give reservation.
This is significant as the Supreme Court has upheld the judgment in the Maratha case that only the Central Government has the power to add castes to the backward class under the 102nd Amendment to the Constitution!
On May 9, I issued a statement saying that the Supreme Court's decision deprived the states of their rights and that the Constitution should be amended to eliminate this social injustice. Glad the Central government is accepting it now!
The Central government must pass a bill to amend Section 342 of the Constitution to give back to the states the right to include castes in the backward classes in the next session of Parliament on the 19th! ”
