AIADMK co-ordinator O. Panneerselvam has demanded that steps be taken to continue running a university named after Jayalalithaa.
In this regard, the OPS released a statement today (July 03):
"Every year new medical colleges, engineering colleges, law colleges, arts and science colleges are being created and new districts, divisions and circles are being set up. That's why.
Based on this, various colleges were started during Jayalalithaa's tenure. Following this, in the same year, 11 medical colleges, in the order of AIIMS Hospital in Madurai, accepted the long standing demand of the people of Villupuram district and announced in the AIADMK regime on the way to Villupuram that a new university would be formed with Villupuram as its headquarters and Villupuram as its headquarters. The draft law to create a new university was introduced in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on 5-02-2021 and passed unanimously and then enacted into law.
Following this, the government was also released. It also stated that from the academic year 2021-22, colleges in Cuddalore, Villupuram and Kallakurichi districts should be affiliated to this university.
In this context, following the change of government after the general election, a notice has been issued on behalf of Thiruvalluvar University in which the colleges of arts and science in Villupuram, Cuddalore and Kallakurichi districts, which already have the affiliation status of Thiruvalluvar University, have to apply for admission and affiliation for the current academic year. There have been reports in the press that no announcement has been made on behalf of the named university.
It is reprehensible that the DMK government has come down in an attempt to close down the university named after Jayalalithaa in the wake of the dissolution of the Teachers' Selection Board and the change of Omanthurai Government Hospital.
Dissolution of all that was created in the AIADMK regime is not acceptable. Doubts have arisen among the people as to whether the DMK is engaging in such activities, perhaps out of political curiosity that the university should not be in Jayalalithaa's name.
Therefore, I request the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to immediately intervene and take steps to continue the Villupuram-headquartered university named after Jayalalithaa so that the poor and simple rural people can get higher education. ”
Thus, the OPS said.
