Delta farmers should be provided quality seed paddy ... Opposition leader Edappadi Palanisamy

Opposition leader Edappadi Palanisamy has demanded that Delta farmers be provided with quality seed paddy.

In this regard, he issued a statement today (July 02):

"Following the opening of water from the Mettur dam on June 12 last year by the Jayalalithaa government for the cultivation of curry, the delta farmers have fully benefited from the agricultural activities.

Jayalalithaa and the subsequent AIADMK government, realizing that only if the farmer puts his foot in the mud can others get their hands on the mud, have shed permanent light on the lives of the farmers by providing various schemes, incentives and assistance to the farmers during the last 10 years of their rule.

1. A permanent solution to the 50-year-old Cauvery problem has been set up by the Cauvery Water Management Authority and Regulatory Commission.

2. Declaration of Delta Districts as Protected Agricultural Zones.

3. About 5,586 water bodies have been rehabilitated at a cost of about Rs. 1,132 crore under the civil works project. Also, the canals in the delta districts were dredged up to the outlet area. In addition, the Cauvery water reached all the irrigated areas in the delta districts within the stipulated time and the farmers benefited as the canals were dug up to the outlets in the delta districts.

4. Thane storm relief, drought relief, flood relief, special package for cultivation of samba and curry, crop insurance provided to about 1 crore 40 lakh farmers in the last 10 years, about 20 thousand crore rupees relief.

5. About 1.06 crore farmers have been given cooperative loans of about 59 thousand crore rupees in 10 years.

6. Twice in 5 years, crop loans purchased from farmers' co-operative societies are waived. About Rs 5,318 crore was written off to about 12 lakh farmers in 2016 and about Rs 12,110 crore to about 16.43 lakh farmers in 2021.

7. The Athikkadavu-Avinashi project, a 60-year dream project of farmers in Erode, Tiruppur and Coimbatore districts, has been implemented at a cost of Rs. 1,652 crore and 24,468 acres of land is to be irrigated.

8. For agricultural pump sets this year ap. Three-phase power is provided for the first 24 hours from the 1st.

9. As a measure to create a traditional paddy conservation center in the name of paddy Jayaraman,

In the last 10 years, the Government of Tamil Nadu has received various awards at the All India level in the field of agriculture.

1. Achieve 5 times the highest award of the Central Government for food grain production, Krishi Karman.

2. Tamil Nadu topped the Central Government's Best State Award for Water Management.

3. Tamil Nadu is number one in India in implementing micro-irrigation project.

4. The Government of Tamil Nadu has received the 'Scotch Group Eligibility Certificate' in 2019-2020 for the implementation of pilot projects such as Collective Farming, Movement for Sustainable Irrigation and Micro Irrigation.

5. Record 32.41 lakh MT of paddy procured in the Cauvery Delta region, unprecedented in the last 30 years.

Stacking like this, "Let's go".

There have been reports on social media and media that due to the negligence and carelessness of the present DMK government, the farmers involved in the planting process have suffered greatly as quality seed paddy has not been provided to all in a timely manner.

In particular, Veeramani, a farmer from Varakur, near Thiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district, has acquired 7 acres of his 9-acre land from a private A.T. The farmers complained that they had purchased 36 varieties of paddy seeds and prepared seedlings for the remaining 2 acres.

Farmer Veeramani was shocked and lodged a complaint with the Agriculture Department. However, the authorities did not give a proper answer. I request the Government of Tamil Nadu to provide free paddy seeds to farmer Veeramani who has been affected by the negligence of the government. In addition, appropriate compensation should be provided for wasted seed seedlings.

Similarly, I urge the Government of Tamil Nadu to investigate whether such incidents have taken place elsewhere and to provide quality seed paddy to Tamil Nadu farmers in the near future with utmost vigilance. ”

Thus EPS Said.
