Discovery of 2,500-year-old clay pots in Myladumparai...


Four clay pots dating back to 2,500 years have recently been found at Myladumparai near Baku in Krishnagiri district.

In Tamil Nadu, excavations are currently being carried out at 10 places including Keeladi, Kontagai, Agaram, Gangaikonda Cholapuram, Korkai, Sivakalai, Adichanallu, Kodumanal, Manalu and Krishnagiri districts, Mayiladuthurai. The excavation work started last March at the Tamil Nadu Archaeological Department site at Mayiladuthurai near Tokarappalli next to Bagoor.

Mayiladuthurai Archaeological Director Sakthivel, Archaeological Survey Officers Paranthaman, Venkatguru Prasanna, Archaeological Student and a student led by Deputy Director of Archeology Sivanandam were engaged in the excavation work.

The work has now resumed, having been hampered by a general freeze on corona infection.

During the first phase of the work, which took place 10 days ago, a 70 cm. Discovered an iron sword 2,500 years old. He also found four clay pots in the same area.

Director of Excavations Sakthivel said:

Mayiladuthurai, Sanarappan Hill has traces of human habitation. At the foot of the mountain, there are more than 100 stone monuments.

Historians have noted that the objects found in the area during the excavations carried out in the years 1980 and 2003 belong to the Neolithic period.

A study conducted over the past three months has uncovered a 70 cm long iron sword and four clay pots belonging to the Stone Age. These are thought to be 2,500 years old. However, the exact duration of the material inside the pots can only be predicted after the pots have been sent for inspection.
