Public holiday for Shivratri...? The decision will be made in consultation with the Chief Minister...?


The decision to grant a public holiday for Maha Shivaratri in Tamil Nadu will be taken in consultation with the Chief Minister, said Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department Minister P.K. Sehgar Babu.

 He, along with Information Technology Minister T. Manothankaraju, on Tuesday inspected the reconstruction work being carried out on temples belonging to the Hindu Temples Department in Kanyakumari district for the 2nd day.

 Many of the temples operating under the Travancore temple are currently maintained by the Department of Hindu Religious Affairs. Chief Minister MK Stalin advised to maintain these temples and sculptures in the best possible manner and to create a good environment for the devotees to perform Swami Darshan.

 In the study of the Arulmigu Mahadevar Temple in Dikurichi, we came to know that the strength of the wall was reduced due to the collision of water on the bank of the Tamiravaruni river which flows in its eastern entrance area. It is advised to prepare a project report to undertake the tasks of confirming it.

 Similarly, under the Kuzhithurai Devasthanam, the Devaswom Primary School and High School, which were functioning about 15 years ago, are in a state of disrepair. The Department of Hindu Religious Affairs will make every effort to renovate and preserve the 400-year-old palace that has fallen into disrepair in the tombs. The decision to grant a public holiday for Maha Shivaratri will be taken in consultation with the Chief Minister.

 Testing for elephants: 30 elephants are being maintained in various temples in Tamil Nadu. They have been undergoing medical check-ups every 30 days and now they are being checked every 15 days and the food items are being monitored by the medical team. The Chief Minister has directed to provide elephants to the required temples, he said.

 Later, the devotees demanded that the minister, who had inspected the Krishna temple precincts and Nagaraja temple in Nagercoil, be allowed to pour milk and worship the Naga idols in the temple premises.
 During the inspection, J. Kumaraguruparan, Commissioner, Department of Hindu Religious Affairs, Ma. Rathinavel Pandian, Maintenance Engineer Ayyappan, Mandaikadu Devasthanam School Principal S. Chandai, AB Rajan, Jayaseelan and others were present.
