The Karnataka government will begin construction work on the Mekedatu, Chief Minister Eduyurappa said on Tuesday.
On June 18, Karnataka Chief Minister Eduyurappa had said that construction work on the Mekedatu Dam would begin once the central government gave its approval. The announcement of the Chief Minister of Karnataka caused a great deal of controversy.
Condemning the Karnataka Chief Minister's announcement, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said that the Karnataka government should withdraw it.
Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan, who is in Delhi, also met Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to discuss the issue. Following this, Shekhawat said that the Central Government would not give permission to build the Mekedatu Dam without consulting Tamil Nadu.
Responding to a question raised by reporters on Tuesday, Karnataka Chief Minister Eduyurappa said, “The Mekedatu dam issue is in favor of Karnataka. The state government will start the construction of the Mekedatu Dam as per the law. A letter has been written to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in this regard. However, there has been no response from the Tamil Nadu government. ”
