Southern Railway has announced that the public will be able to travel on suburban electric trains in Chennai with some restrictions from today.

As the 2nd wave of corona infection in Tamil Nadu is declining, the state government has given some relaxation in the curfew. In this situation, long distance and electric trains are being operated according to the needs of the passengers.

Only essential staff were allowed on suburban electric trains. The public was not allowed. Employees of the private sector and the general public who relied on rail transport suffered greatly as a result. They demanded that not only essential staff but also the general public be allowed on suburban electric trains.

In this situation, the public has been allowed to travel on suburban electric trains from today. However, there are some restrictions.

Accordingly women and children under the age of 12 who can travel with them can travel at any time. Men can travel from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm and then from 7 pm to the last hour, excluding the so-called `peak hours'.

Federal and state civil servants, court staff, and essential staff can travel at any time. Southern Railway has said that long-distance express train passengers will only be issued one-way tickets.
