History of Mandaikadu Bhagavathi Amman, Kanyakumari District ....

Mandaikadu is a village on the west coast of Kanyakumari district. Bhagwati Amman is ruling here. Mandakkad used to be a dense forest and a sand dune. People in the villages around the area drive their sheep and cows to the forest for grazing. Some were raising more than fifty country cows. These cows are often left in the wild. Those cows are also called mountain cows. These mountain cows are kept there at night and kept on the list. The place where the cows are kept, or gathered, is called the herd. In that sense, the place was called Manthaikadu.

It was called Maruvi Mandakkadu. In the early days of this skull, people suffered from diseases such as cholera, smallpox and smallpox. Witches have been extorting money from people by claiming that the effects of the disease are demons, spirits, and the spirits of the dead. The woman, who was attacked by her husband in anger, died unexpectedly, especially near the swamp in the Manthaikadu area. The woman was buried there. The witches made themselves comfortable by buying money and items such as chickens, goats, etc., claiming that the spirit of the woman was the cause and that they had cast out demons from those affected by the disease.

After hearing about this, a disciple of an abbot who was passing by visited the herd. Came near the well (water fountain, now well). He drew a wheel with 63 angles and prayed daily. The people of the area gathered there. He cured the diseases of the people by his tawa strength. Swamiji, who stayed there for a long time, cured the ailments of the people and also performed Siddha games to entertain the boys. A cancer had developed at the place of worship where Sadhu Sreesakram was kept. Once the sheep and cows were left to graze, the boys gathered there and played. A goat was grazing on the grass and trampled on the grass that had grown there.

Immediately blood gushed from the poison. The shocked boys, wondering if the goat's leg had been hit by the kick and bled, looked at the goat's leg and found no injuries. After confirming that the blood was coming from the poison, the boys went to the elders and told them. They also came to the place where the cancer was and realized that what the boys said was true. Also, they feared that some divine crime had taken place. Later this information came to the notice of the king of Travancore. The king who came with the entourage was also shocked. That night, the king's dream, Bhagwati Amma, said, "I am living here.

If you want to stop the bleeding from the grass, you have to worship kalapam (ground sandalwood) in the grass, ”she said. The next day the king, the minister, the guards and the palace astrologers came to Mandakkadu and prostrated before the poison. Later, as Bhagwati Amma said in a dream, Santhanam Saathi worshiped on the grass. When the king's field was worshiped, the bleeding stopped. Bhagwati Amma was the king who explained to the people what appeared in his dream. He also ordered that daily prayers be held here. After that, weeds were laid around the field and worship was conducted by lighting lamps all the time.

Kerala Sadhu, who came to solve the ailments of the people, was relieved to see the scene where the goddess awoke in the grass. Sadhu, thinking that the work he had come for was done, dug a deep pit on the left side opposite the Mandakkadu Bhagwati Amman Temple. Then he called the boys who were playing there and said, "I 'm going to meditate in this pit. When I meditate, cover this pit with soil and come back the next morning. '' The boys, according to Sadhu, poured mud and filled the pit as he meditated. The boys told the villagers what had happened. The next day when the boys dug the soil at the point they had pointed out, Sadhu seemed to be deep in meditation in the pit.

He has no temptation. Realizing that he had reached the tomb, the people put a board on top of the pit and poured mud on top of it and covered the pit. It is said that the tomb of Sadhu is the Bhairav Sannathi which is now located in front of the Bhagwati Amman Temple in Mandakkad. Mandaikadu is dedicated to Bhagavad Gita and later to the tomb of Sadhu. The temple used to be a hut where traders from places including Kollam, Kerala used to take coconuts and tamarind to the Kottaru market for sale. One day a trader from Kollam was finishing his business and was coming through Mandakkadu in a cow cart.

It was late at night and the weary merchant was sitting on the roof of a house near the Mandakkadu temple, "pinching his hungry stomach."
