To put an end to illegal granite looting ... Tamil Nadu government should be vigilant .... High Court

The Chennai High Court has advised the Tamil Nadu government to put an end to illegal granite looting and to be vigilant in protecting natural resources.

Cory G. Saravanam was prosecuted for protecting granite resources from unlicensed quarries in the Arur area of Dharmapuri district.

When the case came up for hearing in the Chief Justice's session, it was informed that the case was being pursued due to personal animosity on the part of the Tamil Nadu government.

But the judges, who refused to accept it, advised the government to take action as it was state land that was being occupied and looted despite personal animosity.

They advised the Tamil Nadu government to put an end to illegal granite looting wherever it takes place without permission and to be vigilant in protecting the granite resources.

The court adjourned the case for 3 weeks, ordering the Governor of Aroor to inspect the place mentioned by the petitioner and take action to remove it if there is occupation.
