Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that a decision will be taken in three months on making it compulsory to fit plex engines in vehicles that use both petroleum and natural fuels.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari today inaugurated the first liquefied natural gas plant in Nagpur. He spoke on the occasion:
We spend Rs 8 lakh crore on imports of petrol, diesel and petroleum products. This is the biggest challenge. So as an alternative to oil imports, we have developed a policy to encourage the use of affordable, high-pollution domestic ethanol, biofuels, liquefied natural gas and hydrogen fuels. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is constantly working on the use of different alternative fuels.
We need to fuel these to prevent wastage of rice, maize and sugarcane that are over-produced in our country.
A decision will be taken in three months to make it mandatory to fit Plux engines in both four-wheelers and two-wheelers to use both petroleum and natural fuels.
Countries such as the United States, Canada, and Brazil have Plex engine-equipped vehicles. The price of these is the same as the price of petrol engine vehicles. While petrol and diesel pricing has become a major issue, this plex engine will reduce fuel costs.
Thus he said.
