'Bharat Ratna' for Sunderlal Bahuguna ... Kejriwal appeals to Prime Minister Modi...

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to confer the Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian award, on the late ecologist Sundalal Bahuguna.

Sundalal Bahuguna, an ecologist known to have played a key role in the Chipco movement in Uttarakhand, has recently passed away.

In this context, a few days ago, Chief Minister Kejriwal had demanded that the Central Government award him the Bharat Ratna.

He also said that he would write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard.

Accordingly, Kejriwal wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.

In the letter, she stated:

In the 75th Independence Year of the country we are honoring the freedom fighters. Similarly, we are honoring outstanding personalities who have shown the right direction for the country. On behalf of the Government of Delhi, I request you (Prime Minister) to honor Sundalal Bahuguna with the Bharat Ratna Award in that regard. We hope that the Bharat Ratna award for Bahuguna will be a source of pride for that award.

Bahuguna dedicated his life to protecting the environment. At a time when he was blindly exploiting natural resources, he was consciously spreading the threat to the world and protecting the environment. He also warned of human error in treating nature as a personal asset. She also raised awareness that they have to face various problems due to exploitation. Therefore, I hope you will consider this request of the Government of Delhi to grant him the Bharat Ratna.

I urge you to take the appropriate decision in this regard soon. It is a good fortune for the people of India to have a personality like Sundalal who was born here as he has inspired all of us throughout his entire life.

A portrait of Bahuguna has been installed in the Delhi Legislative Assembly. Only then will her life and work to protect the environment be an inspiration and guide to Delhi's policy makers, she said.

Sundalal Bahuguna started the ‘Chipko Andolan’ movement in Uttarakhand to protect trees from being cut down and worked for it all his life.

Aw passed away on May 21 this year at the age of 94. Uttarakhand is scheduled to hold a legislative assembly next year.

The Aam Aadmi Party is busy preparing for the polls in the state. It is noteworthy that in this situation, the party has said that the Bharat Ratna award should be given to Bahuguna.
