Under the rule of Maratha king... to bring down the 200 year old gallows... Protest...!

Locals in Thanjavur have protested against the demolition of a 200-year-old gallows used during the reign of the Maratha king.

Behind the Thanjavur Big Temple is a 200 year old scaffold on the upper bank of Sevapanayakan Lake.

The scaffolding is 200 feet long and 30 feet wide and is made of a mixture of brick, limestone and marble at a height of 10 feet above the ground. At present only the building remains without any roof.

Some people came to demolish the construction of this platform yesterday. Following this, the people of the area who had gathered there protested against the demolition of the gallows and sent back those who had come for the demolition work.
Aware of this, Big Temple Rescue Team Treasurer Fruit Rasendran and engineer Ravi Kumar, who lives near the house where the scaffolding is located, told reporters:

During the reign of the Maratha kings, it was customary to hang those who had committed heinous crimes on the gallows. The scaffolding was used by the Maratha kings who ruled Thanjavur.

Since the scaffolding was not used over time, only construction currently remains.

Locals in the area have been guarding the platform so that no one can occupy it.

In this situation, yesterday suddenly some people came there and tried to demolish it saying that this place belongs to us. We have stopped this.

Also, the archeology department said the site should be inspected and the remaining construction preserved.
