For the 88th year in the history of the Mettur Dam, preparations have begun to open the Cauvery Delta for irrigation from the Mettur Dam. Mettur Dam irrigates 16.05 lakh acres in 12 Cauvery Delta districts.

The Cauvery Delta will be opened for irrigation from the Mettur Dam on June 12 every year. Water for delta irrigation has been opened 60 years late due to unsatisfactory availability and supply of water from Mettur Dam.

The availability and supply of water from the dam has been satisfactory and water has been opened for irrigation from the Mettur dam in advance for 10 years at the request of the farmers. The Cauvery delta was opened for irrigation on June 12, a significant date in the 17-year history of the Mettur Dam. Water will be opened for delta irrigation on a specific day on the 18th of the current year.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has announced that the water supply from the Mettur Dam will be opened on June 12 for the cultivation of curry as the water supply of the Mettur Dam is satisfactory in the current year and in view of the monsoon. In turn, public works officials have begun preparations for the Mettur Dam. Painting work in the catchment area of ​​the Mettur Dam and the movement of the canals in the upper catchment area are being checked. The water for irrigation will then be discharged through the dam power station and the mining power station.

Then the power plants will start generating electricity. The volume of water initially opened at a rate of 3,000 cubic feet per second will then be increased as needed. When the water from the Mettur dam is opened for Cauvery delta irrigation, power will be generated at the dam power station, mining power station and 7 gates.
