Neerav Modi and his cousin Mehul Choksi, a Mumbai-based diamond merchant from Maharashtra, embezzled Rs 14,000 crore from the Punjab National Bank and fled abroad. Choksi fled to the North American country of Antigua and Barbuda. Choksi, who recently tried to flee Cuba from Antigua, was arrested in Dominica, another island nation nearby. The Central Government is involved in efforts to extradite him to India.
The case is being heard in Dominica. In this case, Choksi has filed an affidavit in the court stating: In India, I have not violated the law; One who respects the law. When I left India, the law enforcement officers did not issue any arrest warrant against me. I left India to seek medical treatment in the United States.
