A four-member committee has been set up to inquire into the fire at the Mandakkadu Bhagwati Amman temple and the roof of the temple will be rebuilt at the expense of the Hindu Temples Department, according to Treasury Minister Sekar Babu.
Hindu Charities Minister Sekar Babu and Technology Minister Mano Thankaraj today inspected the roof of the famous Mandaikadu Arulmigu Bhagwati Amman temple sanctuary in Kanyakumari district and inquired about the fire.
District Collector Arvind, Kanyakumari MP Vijay Vasant, State Council member Vijayakumar, M.P. L. Aces MR Gandhi, Prince, Vijayatharani, Rajeshkumar were also present.
Following this, the Minister of Charity Sekar Babu met the press. He said that the 25 1/2 feet long and 17 feet wide wooden roof of the temple was not damaged in the fire but the sanctum sanctorum was not damaged. A team of four people, including a forest department official and a treasury official, are investigating.
In the first phase, we are investigating 8 people, including Pujari and Upper Shanti. He said action would be taken in consultation with the Chief Minister regarding the gold-plated roof demanded by the devotees and that the fire should not be taken for political lavish singing and that the temple would be rebuilt on an 8-foot leap basis except for the 4-foot leap.
