Residents of Kanur near Avinashi have complained that air pollution is caused by excessive cane discharge from private iron ore.
In this connection, the villagers of Kanur said: Avinashi Vattamkanur panchayat includes the villages of Big Kanur, Chinna Kanur and Kanur Puthur. Kanur panchayat has 2,500 voters in 1,100 households.
Air pollution in Kanur village has increased in recent days due to a private winding factory operating in Greater Kanur.
Excessive amounts of sugarcane leaving the plant can cause suffocation in many people. Many of the victims are children, pregnant women and the elderly living in the village. Frequent exposure to polluted air also increases the risk of developing respiratory diseases, including asthma.
Although the iron ore has been in operation for 10 years, it has recently emitted a large amount of smoke, and sugarcane is being studied on nearby crops including banana, cassava, turmeric, cotton and coconut. The Kanur pond, which is a major source of water for the surrounding villages and a key component of the Athikkadavu-Avinashi project, is also polluted. We have been affected by iron ore in all aspects like air, water level, livestock and agricultural production.
They buy scrap metal from various places including Kerala and make steel here. Trucks loaded with scrap metal get on speed bumps, and when they disembark, scrap metal, including nails, falls down and tires the other vehicles on the road. '
Kanur Panchayat President M. Myilsami said, “We have talked to a private mill about the large-scale outflow of sugarcane. We have advised the public to take care without any hindrance. We urge you to run the plant without disturbing the people, ”he said.
Tirupur North Pollution Control Engineer Saravanakumar said, "We are investigating the complaint of the public regarding the excessive smoke coming out of the iron ore in Kanur village."
