Opposition leader Edappadi Palanisamy said in a statement that the number of deaths due to corona infection in Tamil Nadu was 27,356 till yesterday (7.6.2021). Conversely, victims of various complaints across the state have been reported to have issued death certificates stating that those who died of corona infection died of other causes.

However, some people take the bodies of the dead home and perform the funeral rites in the presence of relatives, as the coroner gives a death certificate stating that the victims died of other causes. Thus there is a possibility of full-scale spread of corona infection. Victims have also complained that the relief assistance announced by the federal and state governments is not available to children who have lost their parents to corona infection, citing other causes in the death certificate.

I would like to mention here that yesterday (7.6.2021) during the hearing of the case on the task of enumerating orphaned and orphaned children by the Corona in the Supreme Court, it was ordered that ‘all State Governments should enumerate children through district authorities and report to the Child Welfare Committees within 24 hours’.

Therefore, I request the Government of Tamil Nadu to certify the exact cause of death of those suffering from coronavirus in their death certificate if they are suffering from coronavirus and are being treated in government and private hospitals. Edappadi Palanisamy also called on the government to ensure that the relief aid announced by the government for children who have lost their parents due to coronavirus reach the proper level and that the bodies of those who died following the coronary procedures are buried.
