According to Minister PDR Palanivel Thiagarajan, at present the prices of petrol and diesel cannot be reduced in Tamil Nadu. There is criticism that within 50 days of PMAC's youth leader Anbumani Ramadoss taking charge, the DMK has lost its colours.
in his statement on
Finance Minister PDR Palanivel Thiagarajan said in his statement that there is no possibility of reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel in Tamil Nadu. Within 50 days of assuming office, the DMK had whitewashed itself by claiming that it had failed to fulfill its election manifesto of reducing petrol prices by Rs 5 per liter and diesel by Rs 4.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai yesterday, Finance Minister Thiagarajan said that the central government had imposed very high excise duty on petrol and diesel, which would have reduced the revenue generated by the state government, and it would be a mistake on the part of the central government. To reduce fuel prices in Tamil Nadu. It is true that the excise duty of the central government is Rs 32.90 per liter on petrol and Rs 31.80 per liter on diesel. It is also true that a large part of it has been declared as a special solution and the agro-infrastructural solution has not been given to the state governments. Central government excise tax should be reduced; The Proletarian People's Party has also been urging the states to play their part in the excise tax. In other words, the Proletarian People's Party is the only party in Tamil Nadu that is emphasizing it with statistics.
But, what I want to hear is that the federal government didn't raise the excise tax overnight. It has been continuously pushing for the last 7 years starting from 2014. The federal tax on petrol and diesel remained the same when the election manifesto for the legislature was released on March 13. Keeping this in mind, the DMK Election Commission and its chairman, current Chief Minister MK Stalin have promised to reduce the prices of petrol and diesel. Why is a possible reduction in prices no longer possible? Did the DMK make a false promise, knowing it was not possible?
It is not clear how the central government will benefit from the reduction in petrol and diesel prices in Tamil Nadu. Even if the Central Government increases or decreases the excise duty, its effect and benefit will be available to all in India. In such a situation, if the Tamil Nadu government reduces the tax on petrol and diesel, then it will benefit the people of Tamil Nadu; This is what the state government should see. No excuse should be made for not reducing tax.
The state finance minister, who claims that the central government has increased taxes, has covered how much the Tamil Nadu government charges on petrol and diesel. The price of 1 liter of petrol in Chennai today is Rs 98.14. Out of this, the state government's tax is 34% i.e. around Rs 24.90. Adding the share of Rs 1.40 available in central government tax, it becomes Rs 26.30. The Tamil Nadu government gets 25% tax or about Rs 18.46 on diesel at Rs 92.32 per liter. The tax revenue of the state of Tamil Nadu will increase even if the central government increases the tax and increases the price of crude oil in the world market. Even Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan cannot deny it.
For example, when the DMK government took power on May 7, the price of a liter of petrol in Chennai was Rs 93.15. The Tamil Nadu government received Rs. 23.60. Since then, the price of petrol has increased by Rs 4.99 per liter in the last one and a half months. Consequently, the share of Value Added Tax available to the State of Tamil Nadu has increased by Rs 1.30 per litre. In such a situation, even if the price of petrol and diesel is reduced by Rs 10 per liter, the government will not suffer any loss. That too can spread corona. This amount of tax deduction will be a great help and boon for the people of Tamil Nadu who are losing their livelihood and facing economic crisis.
If the central government imposes higher taxes on petrol and diesel, the state government launders almost the same amount. No one can deny this. It is condemnable that Tamil Nadu Central Government, which is levying additional tax of Rs. The DMK government should not give false reasons for not implementing its election promises. The DMK, which was in opposition, had been pushing for bringing petrol and diesel prices under GST, but now opposes it. The DMK, which has promised to cut prices before the elections, says it can no longer do so. This is a double standard and the people of Tamil Nadu will not accept it. In his statement, Kattam said that the government should not try to cheat the people of Tamil Nadu.
