Rahul Gandhi today appeared before a court in Surat in connection with a case related to his controversial remarks about Prime Minister Modi.
Rahul Gandhi has been charged with making controversial remarks about Modi during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign.
Speaking in the state of Karnataka during the election campaign, Rahul Gandhi had said, "Neerav Modi, Lalit Modi, Narendra Modi, how come everyone has the same name. How can all the thieves here in the country have the same family name as Modi." Rahul's speech was immediately talked about.
In April 2019, BJP MLA Purnesh Modi complained that Rahul Gandhi's speech was defamatory of the entire Modi community. The case is pending in the Surat court in Gujarat.
Surat Chief Justice AN Dave last week ordered Rahul Gandhi to file his final statement in this regard. Rahul Gandhi appeared in the Surat court today in this case. He had earlier appeared in the Surat District Court in October 2019.
