The Southern Railway official said that they are considering setting up a railway station near the location of the Madurai AIIMS.

Similarly, people from Kanyakumari to Trichy are likely to come to the AIIMS Hospital in Madurai for medical treatment.

Thousands of people, especially those on the Madurai-Red Fort, Tirunelveli, Thiruchendur, Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, Rameswaram, Pollachi, Dindigul, Karaikudi railway line and patients from all parts of Tamil Nadu and their relatives come to Toppur 'Aims' Hospital.

Thiruparankundram Railway Station is located at a distance of 4.5 km from Toppur, where the AIIMS is located. Most express and passenger trains stop here.

However, there was a constant demand from various quarters, including the Southern District Railway Passengers' Associations, the public and traders, to set up a railway station on the 2 km, long-distance railway line, very close to the AIIMS Hospital, to facilitate the arrival of people in view of future needs. It has been reported that the railway station is currently considering setting up a railway station near Ames Hospital.

Pandiyaraja, a social activist from Pavoorchatram, Tenkasi district, who has been receiving RTI information about AIIMS Hospital, said:

In response, Bharathkumar, Senior Transport Manager, Southern Railway, said that a request was being considered to set up a new railway station at the site of the Madurai AIIMS.

Madurai Aims is located between Thirumangalam and Thiruparankundram railway stations. The distance between these two railway stations is 10 km. Madurai AIIMS is located at a distance of over 4 km from Thiruparankundram railway station. Currently, there is no operational requirement to provide an additional crossing station. It is gratifying to note, however, that the proposal for suspension may be considered on the basis of requirements.

Madurai AIIMS Hospital is the most important project in the southern districts. During the implementation of this project, more than a thousand people visit Madurai AIIMS Hospital daily for various reasons. People often rely on rail transport for safe and comfortable travel. Poor and middle class people prefer to travel by train as train fares are low.

Electric trains, including the Metro, are likely to run shorter distances in the near future. As such, the construction of a new railway station called Madurai AIIMS will be of great help to thousands of people daily.
