The Delhi Police is conducting an intensive investigation into whether the two men from the Bagarganj area who stole and sold more than 100 cars in Delhi have links with Kashmiri Extremist outfits.
According to Jasmeet Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Delhi District, two persons, Shelakat Ahmed (35) and Mohammad Zubar (22), were arrested while driving a stolen car last Friday. The investigation revealed that they belonged to a car theft gang. Singh said they used to come to Delhi on a flight from Kashmir and steal the car and drive it back to Kashmir and sell it.
The two were initially arrested in a car theft case. However, when the police examined their mobile phones and interrogated them, it was suspected that they had links with extremist organizations in Kashmir. Investigators and Kashmir police have arrived in Delhi to interrogate the two arrested. Similarly, Delhi Police is on its way to Sopore in Kashmir's Baramulla district to ascertain whether the stolen cars were sold to militant outfits in Delhi, police sources said.
During the investigation, Shelakath Ahmed said that he was working as a government contractor in Baramulla district. He has flown 6 times from Sopore to Delhi in the last one month. He stole a car in Delhi and drove it to Kashmir. Who is his accomplice ?, who has given contradictory information back and forth about who the stolen cars are being sold to. A search of the cell phones of the two detainees revealed that they contained images of weapons, drones, terrorists and victims of terrorist attacks.
When Ahmed was questioned about this, he refused to tell the truth. He speaks as if he is in touch with the media in Kashmir. There were burns on several parts of his body. Singh also said it looked like an injury caused by explosives. We are investigating from various angles, including whether the two men arrested in this case may have links to extremist organizations. Among the two arrested was Shelakat Ahmed from Kashmir. His accomplice Juber hails from Shamli, Uttar Pradesh. He has been working as a mechanic.
It is learned that the duo along with some others including Ring and Wasim got into the car theft business to make easy money. Ring steals cars in Delhi and gives them to Juber and Ahmed. They will drive it.
In March this year, we received information that two people were coming to Delhi from Kashmir to retrieve stolen cars. Following this, we monitored the car theft gang. Last Friday, Rinku, Juber and Ahmed were caught near Bagarganj when they were coming in a stolen Baleno car. Juber and Ahmed were both arrested. But Singh said the ring had escaped.
