Chennai High Court orders the Government of Tamil Nadu to file a report on the details of 5 lakh 25 thousand acres of land mentioned in the Policy Note for 1985-87.
The Chennai High Court has directed the Government of Tamil Nadu to file a report on the details of 5 lakh 25 thousand acres of land mentioned in the policy statement in 1985-87 as belonging to Tamil Nadu temples.
In the petition filed by Radhakrishnan from Salem, the policy note issued by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1985-86 and 1956-87 stated that there were 5 lakh 25 thousand acres of land owned by temples in Tamil Nadu and in the policy note issued in 2018-19 and 2019-20 , 4 lakh 78 thousand acres of land.
He demanded an order to find the remaining 47,000 acres of land. Similarly, Lord Dantapani in Coimbatore had demanded the removal of encroachments on temple-owned lands, including the temple, Karivaratharaja Perumal Temple, and an order to use 50 per cent of the proceeds from temple lands for temples.
The bench comprising Justices Kirubakaran and Tamilselvi directed the Government of Tamil Nadu to file a report on the lands mentioned in the policy statement issued in 1985-87 and the lands mentioned in the policy statement issued in 2018-2020.
Further, the magistrates directed the Tamil Nadu government to respond in detail to the petition and adjourned the hearing till July 5.
