In what way is it fair that the DMK government, which insists that college students should not be allowed to appear for the entrance examination, should conduct the entrance examination for Class 11? As questioned by Ramadas.
In a statement issued by PMK founder Ramdas, the Commissioner of School Education has announced that if a large number of students have applied for admission to Class XI in Tamil Nadu Government and Government Aided Schools in excess of the permitted seats, they will have to undergo an entrance examination in which they will be admitted on the basis of their marks. This is against social justice.
The Tamil Nadu Commissioner of School Education announced yesterday that 10 to 15% more students could be enrolled than allowed in government and government-aided schools. It has been said that if the application is received parallel to or less than the allotted seats, students can be assigned the section of their choice without entrance examination. The Tamil Nadu School Education Commissioner has directed the school administrations to select the students by conducting an entrance examination at the relevant school level with 50 questions in the relevant subject, selecting the correct answer, if more students apply than the seats allotted for any one course.
The DMK government has stated that it is its policy not to conduct entrance examinations for any degree in Tamil Nadu, including medicine and engineering. Neat also promised during the election that he would cancel the election if he came to power. Chief Minister Stalin had announced two days ago that he would not allow colleges to admit students on the basis of admission, even though there was no general examination for Class XII in Tamil Nadu. In what way is it fair that the DMK government, which insists that college students should not be allowed to appear for the entrance examination, should conduct the entrance examination for Class 11? How can this choice be accepted against social justice?
The Government of Tamil Nadu has stated that this action has been taken on the basis of the judgment given by the Chennai High Court on March 22/2021 in the case of private schools. This is an act of deceiving and distracting students. The case pointed out by the Tamil Nadu government is a case filed against the cancellation of examinations for Classes 9, 10 and 11 and the announcement that all have passed.
The High Court has dismissed the demand of private schools to conduct small examinations at the school level to test the ability of 9th, 10th and 11th class students and pass on that basis. If so, the judges said that when private schools asked to be allowed to conduct student admissions on the basis of asking some questions to test their ability during the 11th grade enrollment, it could be done online or directly if live classes were started. This is for private schools only. Even that was not issued as an order, except as the judges said it was an advice.
The court did not issue any order regarding public schools. In that case, it would be a mistake for the government to rush all schools to take the entrance exam. Although the High Court has stated that direct questions should be raised only if direct classes are started, it is against the interest of the school education commissioner to conduct direct entrance examinations in the face of severe corona fears and to start classes within the next week.
Why is the government rushing to complete the admission of students by conducting an urgent entrance examination for the 11th class? I do not know. Score details for 10th grade students have not yet been released. Once they are published, it would be appropriate to conduct student admission based on those scores. After the cancellation of the Class X general examinations last year, the admission to the Class XII examination was conducted on the basis of the marks given on the basis of the performance of the students in the term examinations. But that practice should not be changed, citing a judgment that does not apply now.
Chief Minister Stalin has repeatedly stated that their position is that there should be no entrance examination for any course. The Chief Minister is writing a letter to the Prime Minister emphasizing the same demand, as I had insisted last June 5 that no entrance examination including NEET should be held. On the one hand, while all this is happening, on the other hand, the Tamil Nadu government announces that the entrance examination for Class 11 students will be held in state government schools. Why this dual position? Is this the way to protect social justice?
The Government of Tamil Nadu should not set a false precedent by conducting entrance examinations for school courses, as admission to college courses should not be allowed. "I urge not only government schools in Tamil Nadu but also private schools to conduct admissions to Class XI as they did last year, as well as the current enrollment," he said.
