BJP Kalyanaraman's thuggery law quashed... Chennai High Court verdict...

Chennai High Court has quashed the thuggery law against BJP leader Kalyanaraman. Chennai-based BJP executive committee member Kalyanaraman, who attended a demonstration on behalf of the BJP at the Coimbatore Mettupalayam on January 31, has caused a great deal of controversy by speaking the truth about the Islamist prophet.

Kalyanaraman and Satish Kumar from Mettupalayam were arrested on January 31 on a complaint lodged by the Islamic Alliance. The two then filed a petition in the Coimbatore District High Court seeking bail in the case, but the trial court dismissed their petitions.

Following the recommendation of the Coimbatore SP to allow the arrest of Kalyanaraman under the Gangster Act, the District Collector had ordered his arrest under the Gangster Act.

Accordingly he was arrested under the Gangs Act and imprisoned. Kalyanaraman's wife Shanthi had filed a case in the Chennai High Court against her arrest under the Gangs Act. In that case, she stated that her husband had been abused under the Thugs Act and could not be prosecuted for slander.

He also said that the petition filed with the government against the thuggery law was not considered in a timely manner.

Judges BN Prakash, Pongiyapan Session

Judges BN Prakash and Pongiyapan, who heard the case, have ordered that the petition filed by the petitioner against the government be repealed on the ground that it had not been considered in due course.
