Kamal Haasan, chairman of the People's Justice Center, has questioned why the housewives' rights have not yet come 75 days after the DMK came to power.
In a statement, he said, "The contribution of housewives to our economy is significant. Their sacrifices, hard work and dedication are immeasurable. The idea that housewives should be paid was first mooted by the People's Justice Center of India. Other political parties welcomed the move and echoed it in their election promises from Tamil Nadu to the Assam Assembly elections.
The DMK announced in its election promise that family heads would be given a monthly stipend of 1,000 rupees. It was widely expected that announcements on when the monthly entitlement plan for family heads would go into effect would feature in the governor's speech.
It is disappointing that this announcement has not been made for 75 days since he came to power. The DMK should immediately launch this project as mentioned in its election promise. I request the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to make the announcements in the forthcoming budget session, "said Kamal Haasan.
