Heavy rains in central China's Henan province have affected about 3 lakh people, leaving 33 dead and eight missing as of 4 a.m. Thursday, local officials said.
Henan province has been experiencing heavy rains since last Saturday. This is the highest rainfall in the last 1,000 years.
So far 33 people have been killed in the rains. In addition, 8 people have been reported missing in the floods.
The provincial emergency management department said 3,76,000 people had been evacuated from high-risk areas to safer areas.
Rainwater has damaged crops on 215,200 hectares, causing a direct economic loss of about 1.22 billion yuan (about $ 188.6 million).
Chinese media reported that not only the military, but also police, firefighters and local personnel were involved in the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has warned that it will continue to rain for three days.
