The water level in the catchment areas of Mullaiperiyaru Dam is increasing due to continuous rains. As of Saturday, 5,079 cubic feet of water came in a single day.
The Mullai Periyar Dam catchment area has been receiving continuous rains in response to the southwest monsoon.
The Periyar Dam received 38.2 mm of rain on Friday and Thekkady 27.4 mm. Meanwhile, Periyar Dam received 46.0 mm of rainfall on Saturday and Thekkady Lake received 34.6 mm of rainfall on Saturday.
As a result, the dam received 1,582 cubic feet of water per second on Friday, 5,079 cubic feet per second on Saturday, and an increase of 3,497 cubic feet in a single day.
Water level detail
The water level in Periyar Dam was 128.80 feet (total water level 142 feet), water reserve was 4,439 million cubic feet, discharge was 5,079 cubic feet per second and discharge from the dam to Tamil Nadu was 1,200 cubic feet per second.
In this situation, the flow of water in Mullaiperiyar is increasing due to the increase in the flow of water in Suruliyaru, Suranganaru, Varataru, Suruliyaru Minnilayaru and Yanaikajam, wild springs.
The water in the dams is overflowing as more water flows into the Periyar than is allowed to open from the dam.
