The US government has appointed Atul Keshab as the Interim Charge of Affairs at the US Embassy in Delhi. He has already served as the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Ambassador Daniel Smith, who has served as Director of the U.S. State Department Training Institute, has been appointed to India as the Interim Charge de Affairs. Following the retirement of Daniel Smith, who has been in charge for the past two months, Ambassador Atul Keshab, a senior member of the Foreign Service, will leave for Delhi to serve as Interim Charge of Affairs.
Keshab previously served as Assistant Secretary of State for the US Embassy in Delhi and South Asia. He recently served as Principal Assistant Secretary of the Bureau for East Asia and Pacific Affairs and as US Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

The appointment of Ambassador Atul Keshab will help tackle global challenges such as the COVID-19 epidemic. The U.S. government said in a statement that Keshab's appointment would help boost closer ties between India and the United States.
