The Government of Tamil Nadu should expedite the procurement as the paddy bundles are stable .... Ramadas request

Pamaka founder Ramdas stressed that the Tamil Nadu government should expedite the purchase as paddy bundles are stagnant.

In this regard, the statement issued by Ramadas today (June 24):

"Direct paddy procurement centers in the Cauvery Irrigation Districts and some parts of the Northern Districts have been temporarily suspended.

Summer cultivation is done in Cauvery Irrigation Districts. In Thanjavur district alone, 193 paddy purchasing centers have been opened for the purchase of paddy.

More than 200 paddy purchasing centers have been opened in Mayiladuthurai, Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts. However, most of the paddy purchasing centers in Thanjavur district have stockpiled more than 10,000 bundles of paddy each purchased from farmers.

According to the officials, the reason for suspending the purchase of paddy is the lack of space to store the newly purchased paddy bundles.

In the last few days, paddy has not been procured and in more than 50 paddy procurement centers, there are between 15,000 and 20,000 bundles each. There is a need for farmers to wait in large numbers to protect them. In some places, only 800 to 900 bales of paddy are procured per day, even though purchases are made at paddy procurement centers.

At the same time, at least 3,000 to 5,000 bundles arrive at each purchasing station each day. As a result, farmers are blaming the increasing number of unpurchased paddy bundles in those areas.

It is the mismanagement of the management that is responsible for the stagnation of paddy bundles at direct paddy procurement centers. Bundles of paddy purchased at direct paddy procurement centers will be sent to modern rice mills across Tamil Nadu.

The bundles of paddy in the warehouses are sent to the rice mills only when the paddy is not procured. But now the bundles of paddy in the warehouses are said to be sent to the rice mills. There may even be legitimate reasons for that.

Arrangements should be made to transport the bundles of paddy purchased at the procurement centers to the warehouses at least when so dispatched. Failure to do so has left millions of bundles of paddy in the Cauvery Irrigation Districts in an unsafe environment.

Not only in Thanjavur district, but also in Thiruvarur and Ariyalur districts and in some parts of Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram districts, paddy has not been procured.

Paddy bundles cultivated by farmers should not be affected in any way; The Tamil Nadu government had said in the Chennai High Court that it would implement a scheme to go to the fields and purchase paddy.

On the one hand it is not fair to issue such revolutionary announcements and on the other hand to suspend the purchase of paddy.

While it is expected to rain in most of the districts of Tamil Nadu at any time, if it rains, the paddy bundles purchased on behalf of the government and the paddy bundles brought by the farmers for sale will be damaged.

Such a vulnerability should not be sought knowingly. Therefore, the Government of Tamil Nadu should intensify the procurement of paddy in all parts of Tamil Nadu, including the Cauvery Irrigation Districts.

Thus said Ramadas.
