Ram Bridge should be declared a National Monument ... Minister of Environment....

Central Minister of State for Culture and Environment Prakash Patel has said that the Ram Bridge should be declared a National Monument and steps should be taken to place it on the World Heritage List.

He said this in an exclusive interview with the English daily Times of India.

There has long been a demand for the Ram Bridge to be declared a national monument. Personally I also have a preference for it. Not only that, Ram Bridge should be included in the list of World Heritage Sites.

Studies are already underway on the Ramer Bridge. Detailed studies should be conducted in this regard. The Union Minister said.

Ramar Bridge is a ridge-like area between Rameswaram and Sri Lanka in Tamil Nadu. In the Ramayana, it is reported that Rama went to Sri Lanka with the help of monkey forces. According to the Ramayana, the monkeys took the stone and helped Rama to build a bridge over the sea.

It is at this point that the results of the current satellite survey suggest that there is a reef-like structure in the area. But efforts were made during the United Progressive Alliance regime to implement the Sethu Samudra project and start shipping on that route.

The BJP and Hindu organizations have been protesting, saying that doing so would damage the Ram Bridge. It is in this context that Union Minister Prakalat has said that the Ram Bridge should be declared a National Monument. If so, the Ramer Bridge will receive legal protection. Thus, it is noteworthy that the Sethu Samudra project could not be implemented.
