Project for the benefit of beggars in 10 cities across the country ...!

The central govt has announced a comprehensive plan for the benefit of beggars in 10 cities across the country, including Delhi.

Responding to a question in the Lok Sabha, the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, A.K. Narayanasamy provided the following information.

The Comprehensive Federal Department for the Rehabilitation of Beggars is being implemented as a sub-program of the Livelihood and Career Support of Marginalized Individuals called Smile.

The project aims to provide beggars with rehabilitation, medical facilities, mental health counseling, basic documents, education, skills development and economic connections.

He said model projects have been launched in 10 cities including Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna and Ahmedabad to provide comprehensive rehabilitation to beggars.
