The north, west and south gates of the Tirunelveli Nellaiyappar Temple, which were closed in December 2004, were reopened. Thus the devotees rejoiced.
The famous Nellaiyappar Temple in Tirunelveli has gates in 4 directions namely East, West, South and North. The North, West and South gates have been closed since December 2004 for security reasons. Devotees were allowed to enter the temple only through the main gate on the east side. There, police are engaged in security work with a metal detector device.
In this context, the Minister of Hindu Religious Affairs BK Sekarbabu inspected the Nellaiyappar Temple a few days ago. At that time, he accepted the request of the devotees and announced that the north, west and south entrance gates of the temple would be opened soon.
Subsequently, arrangements were made to open all 3 gates which had been closed for the last 17 years. Corporation health workers cleaned all 3 gate areas. At 11 a.m. yesterday, the north, west and south entrances were opened to the sound of trumpets. Temple Executive Officer Ramaraja and staff attended the event.
According to the temple staff, the southern gates were opened during the Ippasi Tirukkalyana and the western and northern gates were opened during the Anne Brahmorsava ceremony. These will be closed on other days. ' Through the 3 gates that were opened a large number of devotees happily came to the temple and performed darshan. Police security has been arranged at all the 4 gates.
