The 'sister of diamond trader Nirav Modi', who fled abroad after taking a loan from a bank and not repaying it, has paid Rs 17.25 crore to the central government, according to the Enforcement Department.

Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi, diamond traders from Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, have borrowed more than Rs 13,500 crore from a Punjab National Bank branch. They fled abroad without repaying it.
The scam is being investigated by the CBI and the Enforcement Department. Nirav Modi has been arrested and jailed in London, the capital of the United Kingdom, and Mehul Choksi in the Caribbean island nation of Dominica.

Both have been deported to India. Nirav Modi's sister Purvi Mehta and her husband Mayang Mehta are British citizens and live in London. Purvi and her husband are involved in Nirav Modi's bank fraud.

In this context, Purvi's letter to the Mumbai Special Court Judge stated: It has come to light that my brother has opened a bank account in my name in London. The money in that account is not mine. So I will transfer the money to the account of the Government of India.

In this situation, the Enforcement Department has confirmed that Purvi Mehta has transferred Rs.17.25 crore from the bank account in London to the account of the Government of India.
