Chennai Airport Rs. 31 lakh worth of gold was confiscated.
Federal Revenue Intelligence officials were informed that gold was being smuggled on an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah to Chennai. Accordingly, the officers searched the passengers and their belongings on the Air Arabia flight that arrived at the Chennai airport.
At that time, the officers of Akilan (27) from Thanjavur became suspicious.
He was then taken to a separate room and examined. The examination revealed that three packets containing 715 grams of gold glue were hidden in his body. Following this, Rs. Authorities confiscated 633 grams of gold worth Rs 31 lakh.
Also, he was taken out of the airport to find someone who wanted to get gold from him.
After a while, the person who came looking for him was also caught. Muhammad Uwais, 23, of Ramanathapuram, also admitted his role in the abduction. Both were arrested. Authorities are investigating.
