A delegation of Tamil Nadu Assembly party leaders left for Delhi to meet the Prime Minister and the Union Water Resources Minister on the Mordhana Dam issue. She is scheduled to meet the Union Minister and Prime Minister Modi today.
The Karnataka government is planning to build a dam at Mordhana across the Cauvery ... but the Tamil Nadu government has strongly opposed this.
The reason is that if the Mordhana Dam is built on the water source Cauvery, it will have a major impact on the livelihoods of farmers in the delta districts.
Paddy production will decline. However, despite the protests of the Karnataka Chief Minister and ministers, the Tamil Nadu government has been saying that the dam will be completed.
It passed a unanimous resolution that no construction work should be carried out in Mordhana and that the Central Government should not give permission for the project of the Government of Karnataka. It was decided that all the parties would go to the meeting and present the resolutions of this meeting to the Central Government.
As early as yesterday morning, Minister Thuraimurugan left for Delhi. Subsequently, yesterday evening, DMK organization secretary RS Bharathi, BJP lawyer faction leader Paul Kanagaraj, Congress spokesperson Gopanna Madhimuga general secretary Vaiko, Marxist Communist Party state secretary Balakrishnan, former Communist Party of India MLA Periyasamy, BJP Leader GK Mani, Humanitarian People's Party leader Jawaharlal Nehru, Tamil Nadu Right to Life Party leader Velmurugan and Revolutionary Bharatiya Janata Party leader Jaganmurthy left for Delhi.
Former AIADMK minister Jayakumar will leave for Delhi this morning. Following this, the delegation will meet Prime Minister Modi and hand over a copy of the resolution passed in protest of the construction of the dam in Mordhana.
